We design for sustainability in the business models for each initiative, but our ability to take on new projects still depends on finding new money to fund them. First, we need funds to harness already-developed technology, as well as the volunteer spirit of the tech community. Then, we need to consider the end user or the product or service, and their ability to pay — some of our communities have little money. The bottom line is this: Third-party buyers of social good bridge the gap between what our users can afford and what the product or service actually costs.
